Society's History c/o Jeffrey Rodriguez (The Society's First President)

well yung history ng alumni was quite an issue nung nakita ko. kung pwede, paki-post yung history natin para ma-
correct natin yung ibang parts... thanks!!!
The ASMAAP,Inc. was founded in Dec 15, 2005. Attendees are merely in MAAP for the founding and watching the 200th
nite as well. the idea of having a general assembly during 200th nite show was to give support to the graduating
class on their special nite. Elected Officers are as follows:
President: Rodriguez '03
Vice President: De Leon '04
Secretary: Javellana '05
Treasurer: Labarda '03
Auditor: Chavez '03
PRO's: Montecalvo '03 & Federico '04
Members of the Board: Abesamis '03, Villaruel '03, Beguia '05, Bagalay '05, Pinpin '03, Galvez '03
First meeting of elected board was held in MAAP in January 2006. came up with the requirement on how to accomplish
the registration and how to source funds. 2nd & last formal meeting, it was sometime in march 2006 in Seaman's
Center (now center for graduate studies in Intramuros Manila). Parties had signed the registration papers. Not all
board of directors attended. The reason why it took years before the Society had been registered was the lack of
people who are to sign the required documents. then the Society slept when the members had joined their company
vessels.
July 2007, Class 2007's Graduation/ALumni homecoming, wherein instructions were given to then Alumni coordinator to
start sourcing funds from the alumni members as it should have been a year back. No reply afterwards.
October 2007, Tautuan (Alumni Coordinator) and I came up to have the trustees signed in behalf by those who are
ashore and that were the names of those who are listed as trustees in the SEC Registration. The names were put in
the forms with the understanding that those who have their names in the forms and signed are aware that still the
Elected Board are the legal ones. No written agreement was made. (Trust of Mouth). From then again, the
Registration succeeded.
But nevertheless, a new set of Board had been elected and accomplishments had been made by the alumni coordinator,
I commend such and willingly stepping down my position and support the future and ongoing projects of the Society.
More power to the ASMAAP,Inc.

Message from the Helm
With all humility I, newly elected Alumni President and the Board, congratulate the graceful and dignified stepping down of our 1st President, 03 Jeffrey M. Rodriquez who first shaped this Society with his Board Members.
In this message, I would like to continue the history of our Society and answer unasked questions.
I was positioned as the Alumni Coordinator June 28, 2008. I was recommended by 07 Wilbert Tau-toan trusting my little skill in our, then, recently started Blue Card (Alumni ID) Project. My task was to merely “monitor” the status of the Graduates under the Department of Shipboard Training.
Finishing the Blue Card Project might well be the end of “non-monitoring task” I should perform. But like all Alumni, I also have deep concern for the Society. Vadm Santos and our 1st President Rodriguez's message posted on the wall of the Alumni office sustained my inspiration to perform “out-of-the-job-description” tasks.
With the counsel and support of 03 Globa, 05 Tolentino and 06 Dilig, we launched the “Visibility and Information Campaign”. The outline of this campaign was presented in the meeting with Class 2008 and during the 2008 Alumni Homecoming. Alumni who attended agreed and supported the Campaign.
The focus: “Make a Moving – Living – Growing ASMAAP,Inc. Known”. Part of the campaign was to distribute progress report, give away calling cards of the Alumni Coordinator (not as MAAP employee but as under ASMAAP, Inc.), provide Blue Cards (Alumni IDs), attend events (weddings), and launch a Website.
With the cooperation of most Alumni, the Campaign proved successful. The Alumni Office was transferred under the Office of the President (lessening MAAP/DST administrative tasks and focusing more on the Society). Since then, more than 150 calling cards were given, around 150 Blue Cards were provided, 15 weddings attended and this Website was launched last October.
As of now, I am also the Admin of this Webforum. We call onto everyone to make this forum known because the only way that we the Long Blue Line will continue as one strong fleet of officers and leaders in the maritime field is through persistent communication and feedback. The fastest feedback loops always wins the game the life, whatever priorities we may choose.
Many problems were also encountered along the way. This includes pursuance of the Corporate Account, the Amendments of some Bylaws and the implementation of some Policies as been requested by members here in this webforum. Truthfully the Spirit is not lacking in us. The main reason these were not immediately pursued was though I am the Alumni Coordinator I am not legally authorized to pursue the above projects since I am not even part of the Board of Trustees.
From regularly reading our Society’s Bylaws, I learned that all members of the Board of Trustees have only a One (1) year term. And risking ourselves under a bad light, 05 Tolentino and I pushed the Alumni Fun Run and the attendees had breakfast together with Vadm Santos afterwards, and a preliminary election was held for this year's Board of Trustees.
In no way do we doubt the deep concern or the competency of the previous Board. All of us Graduates are inherently concerned, and are trained to be competent leaders. There are only circumstantial differences – like I personally choose to stop going onboard to manage my classmates businesses while some alumni are here on land because of unforeseen circumstances.
And as the famous comedian Woody Allen said, “80% of life is showing up or being there”.
Some might ask why “we” are the elected members of the Board and that being landbased is not enough to be part of the Board. Some may doubt our intentions and capacity.
But all Members of the elected Board of Trustees recognize and accept this mantle of Responsibility passed by the previous Board. And I believe that the Board will diligently perform Corporate Enhancing Tasks, prudently manage the Alumni Fund, and enthusiastically facilitate Society Unifying Activities.
Yes, we can make improvements or mistakes. Yes, our reputation can shine or get tarnished. Yes, we can either succeed or fail. But the Board of Trustees will take personal risk, labor and nurture the Society with your support:
President 04 Miko Legaspi
Vice-President 05 Arleo Tolentino
Secretary 06 Edelwina Kutukovs
Treasurer 04 Honey Fame Federico
Auditor 03 Ryan Globa
External Affairs Manager 04 Aileen Ongoco
Birth pains will always be part of the creation of an organization. Now we are learning to walk as one Society. To bring into full force the creative drive and the economic power that we the MAAP Alumni bear is a task that no one man (nor one Board) can do. We are all part of One Team. One Team who are interdependent and transcends all batches, company, and creed.
We will make things happen. Mistakes are inevitable but we must not forget that they are, first and foremost, tools for growth.
We, the Board Members shall not guarantee a glorious blaze of success, but we will ensure our rise from the prevalent complacency, stagnancy and mediocrity that most alumni associations are known for. All of this in the Spirit of our Core Values: Unity – Guidance – Progress.
We are One.
We only have one Academy to nurture and nourish, our cradle who awaits our return and guidance. No one will truly care but us the Graduates. Ultimately, it is our birthright and our Destiny. Gripes must be transmuted to positive actions for her benefit.
Accordingly our motto for 2009 shall be "CONTINUITY AND STABILITY". We shall endeavor to stay connected, produce beneficial instruments for the members and a stable ground for the pursuit of our Career.
We deeply extend our gratitude for the invaluable trust and support of everyone who imparts in many ways Progress that is beneficial to all.
Fair Winds
