Knowledge sharing : Exhaust gas recirculation system

Good day sir/mam, ishashare ko lang sa inyo yung naexperience ko in my last ship, a new system introduced onboard Alexander Maersk (DIS flag), MAN B&W developed a new system about exhaust gas recirculation, ang principle nya yung part of exhaust gas coming from ME magrerecirculate na lang going back to the scavenge air manifold (of course going through different systems as scrubbers, chemical tanks, buffer tanks and purifier) sabi sa kin ng superintendent ng MAN the main objective is to reduce NOx emissions by almost 98% as by far they tested in Copenhangen, same type of engine but now onboard sa barko namin they will try it na integrated sa ship's piping systems (like cooling water system) and when i was there i was lucky enough to experience all the tests they did, kaya lang sir ngarag ako kasi sa 3e na guwardiya sila nagtetest ayaw nila iconflict sa next duty na primero kasi dapat available palagi yung primero namin every day....2 lang kasi kaming gwardiya dun kaya lahat ng irregular test schedule sa gwardiya ko ilalagay...yung priniciple ng system sir simple pero pagwinowork out at subjected to time of commission ang hirap talaga since ako lang yung operational level na engr dun at madalas sa routines ko sinasabi yung EGR system maintenance. I was told na by 2018, all new (ship) buildings of Maersk with MAN B&W engines will have this EGR system pre-installed if successful yung testing. Pero i can see that MAN is really pursuing this system to happen and be implemented in the future. Sabi nila first time daw nila gawin to sa 2 stroke engines specially sa barko...

Maganda nga yung ganun bagong system na yan EGR, it will help alot more with the preservation of our environment good thing at nag-evolve na ang utak ng mga inventors/engineers when it comes to redesigning...kasi sa totoo lang maraming taon na ang study na yan pero kasi nga more on profit pa yung pinag-iisipan nila nuon e nung naramadaman na nila yung epekto sa environment saka na lang pinagtuosan ng pansin, eto na nga may climate change na at kakiba na yung mga bagyo na nabubuo...so some other companies have developed ships w/c are very futuristic in a sense kasi solar and wind powered w/c may go into production baka 2020 pa siguro hehehe e alam mo na to for sure kasi lumabas na to sa isang shipping journal last year...
Pero hindi na pala bago yung 2engrs on watch at sea ah...tsk tsk honestly mahirap mag 6 hours duty every day... kasi wala ka na oras sa pagtulog mo unless mag lagay ka ng switch sa ulo mo so you can turn it off whenever you want to sleep...haaayyy...i miss those days when you are carefree and having no duties, but on board is a very different story, and after your duty please tell me that you are doing any maintenance work or else it will be your sleepless desire...hehehe so to whatever thing that has happened to our 2nd engr, sir pwede ba magduty ka na kasi ganun talaga kapag on board may responsibility at kapag nakaduty sayo yun kailangan mo talaga tutukan...so kapag nag2ndengr ka na bok wag ka palusot sa duty ha? kawawa kasi yung mga operational level dahil wala tulog...
ingat ka diyan sa duty mo at if you have time eat well and refrain from drinking alcohol just to feel sleepy kasi you will end-up becoming an alcoholic before your contract ends at yun yung sad part...stay cool and witty...

aye sir, pero nakaraos naman din hehe...minsan sir nagdodouble watch na ko due to may aberya mga cranes namin sa barko, nagattitude at initiative na lang ako sir sa duties ko at sa mga alarms..specially sa EGR system kasi dagdag pampagising sa gabi yun hehe...so later napurga at natuto kasi immersed madalas sa trabaho and most of the time magisa lang ako magtroubleshoot...learning experience na rin sa kin yung mga nangyari since di ganon kaganda yung manpower namin sa barko by that time and alot of things has to be done, without fitters and cleaners (or painters as they call it) onboard, and successfully nacommission namin yung mga for compliance ng ship superintendent namin...alot of work and things were done with only 2 working engineers onboard (excluding the C/E who likes the paperwork) a tap in the shoulder na lang narecieve ko kay inggo when i finished my contract...all of those things naman sir i take it positively hehe...share ko lang tong experience ko so that my juniors that will soon to be watchkeeping engineers will take a positive outlook sa trabaho...Godbless to all!
