MAAP:world class academy or just another maritime school.
Good day sir,ma'am,Ka-DUX,
We all know that the only thing constant in this life is change.Although we cannot stop the flow of change,we have the power to control the direction its heading wether for the worst or for the best.
We all saw the changes happening inside the academy as we progress from 4th class to 1st class. The improvements of the facilities, the increase in numbers of the students, new instructors.new barracks, new admin. all in all MAAP is changing, the only question is, is it for the betterment or to its downfall.
The aim of this topic is to see if our dear Alma Mater is still going on the right track or going off the cliff of being just another academy,or rather just another maritime school.

DUX don`t expect for the worst but Plan for the best; instead of hoping for the best why not prepare for the worst?

Re: MAAP:world class academy or just another maritime school.
Change is something na hindi natin ma-control and we all know that's a fact pero with that, we just can't look at things negatively... most of the time, hindi natin nakikita kung may maganda ba siyag naidudulot kaagad.. it's not that i agree to everything that's going on right now.. what i'm trying to say is, let's look at how it's progressing- if positive ba or negative.. we cannot just make assumptions right away.
It would be best if we observe and then ASSESS given the right time and as an Alumni, we do our part by thinking of solutions on the foreseen problems rather than complain and complain..

All I can say about change is like a tsunami! If your riding it your definitely enjoying it... If your not enjoying it your definitely swamped by it...
Again, this is one of the most critical and complicated topics that will be ever raised in every institution and believe me it will always come from the new roots...
piece of advice...
However conscious you are to see the things that must be changed and improved, unconsciously you might be just having your own standards and opinion stated...
like the current senate president said...
Being elected to the presidency is a challenging job but being a president is hell lot a diffent matter... -Juan Ponce Enrile

We, members of the Long Blue Line inherently care. Action must also be integral in 'seeing' (the aim of this topic).

We may chose our own definition.
To have action, seeing is a very simple way of identifying problems/changes.. we can either study, observe or might as well discuss the changes that is happening in MAAP. but who are we to tell that "this.. or this.." is changing positively or negatively, "have we been to MAAP lately?", "have we been talking to people working/moving around the academy?", or "have we experienced or felt the change we would like to talk about?"
Just a piece of advice, talking about the changes in MAAP as a whole will not further bring this discussion to it's goal. We can might as well discuss our experiences/observations with the present condition of either of the following; (1) DMA, its task/encouragement to the mdn fleet (2) MDN FLEET, does the tradition runs through (3) KP MAG, reason behind why not even a single mag is published (4) MDWN, reason behind nomore female tac-o/tac-po (5) and so forth...
hoping i am making a point...

Re: MAAP:world class academy or just another maritime school.
My fellow Dux,
changes happen everyday,if change is like a tsunami, one cannot always ride on it since it would spell destruction to others, and if you get swamped by,it will be to one's own destruction.
The flow of change is different to the flow of time, although both are constant,we cannot make time,BUT WE CAN MAKE CHANGE.
We cannot always go with the flow, and be blinded with the fast paced current.Yes I agree, not all changes are geared towards negative effects there are also changes for the good and they are called improvements and we must aim for that;and if change is inevitably negative,we should plan for that.
However, are the things needed to be changed to Our dear alma mater been done or diminishing changes been neglected because She let herself go with the flow without knowing that the current was actually heading to the edge of a fall.
What say you?

recruit ng instructors for deck and engine. saka mga taong (kilala muna kung sino kau) hindi kinukupal ang mga first class kundi tingan ang fourth class midshipmen. <this is the root cause of that "change" what you are talking about>
i hope tama ang sinabi ko..
maayos lang na criticism ang habol ko..

may nakita ako na fourth class midshipman reported at intramuros manila.( magrereport ako update ko lang final balance)last december 2009. then yung oversea cap ay nakalagay sa left shoulder ng black jacket (tama pa ba ang tawag ko a uniform na to?) at nakasuksok pa dun sa lagayan ng shoulder loop. then wala pang shoulder loop na pang fourth class!!! (nani?!?!) anu yan pauso? hmmmm.... style ng batch 2013 desu ka?
DAME DA!!!

well, simple it may seem but it matters.. nwawala na tlg ung mga tradition and culture sa mga existing mdn ngaun..
share ko lng.. when the Dual Cdts Class 2012 reported at Maersk Office last Nov09, nka leave si Marie_06.. so i took over on her absence.. upon observing, ang dami sknila ang ngsukbit ng liberty bag on their shoulders.. nung punahin ko.. i asked them if they know na bawal un.. wlang sumagot.. ;(
disappointing..
ahem ahem
well self improvement na lang. my opinion is, see na ang isang midshipman ay successful sa training in their "own standards" KAPAG ang mga juniors ay humawak ng juniors nila then ang juniors na yung ay na na cocomply ang training.
e.g example ko lang.
year 2004
2005 - first class
2008 - fourth class
year 2007
2008 - first class
2011 - fourth class
kapag ang fourth class ay nadisiplina ng maayos. (except in our ruling years = KILALA MO KUNG SINO KAU!!) then yung 2005 ay masasabing displinado tlga kc napasa nya yung sa 2008 then napasa din sa 2011.
gets ba? magulo cguro ang explaination ko. paki unawa na lang..
fair winds dux!

Re: MAAP:world class academy or just another maritime school.
