but as the same old cliché, it is better late than later...

i have been thinking kasi...
nakaka adik pala dito no... besides ganun pala effect ng tambay. hahaha...




aking napagtanto, na aminin man natin o hindi ay mahirap bigkasin ang salitang ASMAAPI

at kahit na marahil ay meron nang formally registered acronym ata, everything is always open naman for improvement, isn't it?

why not ang acronym na gamitin natin ay:.....

ASM Incorporated[/size]


or pwede rin naman, kapag informal ay ASM lang, ganun naman ang mga ibang companies, sa legal document lang
nag aappear ang incorporated, incorporation, etc.
Marami nga mismong mga employees, di rin nila alam na may corp or inc ang company nila....

or confused nga sila minsan kung -tion or -ed ang dulo ng company name nila

seriously speaking
(ganito kasi talaga kapag madaling araw at wala akong nainom na flesh blood, nababangag... ,
hala parang vampire ata un)

A - Alumni

S - Society of

M - Maritime Academy of Asia and the Pacific (we have combined the name of our beloved Alma Mater with her initials,M)





o di ba, parang GSM Blue ang dating. hehehe.
pero it sounds cool di ba, and more sparkling... (hala parang liquor nga ang dating ah.)

but come to think of it, which would u prefer to say ASMAAPI or A.S.M.?

Moreso, when we say ASMAAPI, given na agad na MAAP un.

Eh kapag u say, A.S.M...
bago sa pandinig nila at mag iisip sila kunwari

tapos itatanong na sa iyo... "anon'ng ibig sabihin ng A.S.M, pare"

then you would answer, with pride,,, dignity and honor (in the Fleet's heart and soul)...

Actually I agree with it. Nung pinag-aaralan ko ang concept ng Idea Virus, nalaman ko na para mabilis magtransfer (makahawa) ang isang idea, kailangan magaan to sa dila (madaling bigkasin) at hindi confusing with another word.

Hindi ko alam kung sino ang nakaisip ng ASMAAPI. But I commend him/her/them. It’s way much better than PMMAAA (Philippine Merchant Marine Academy Alumni Association).. hahah parang lagi silang sumisigaw. Phi-em-em-ahh-ahh-aahhh!!

Hehehe.

On our case naman, nung hindi pa gumagalaw ang Society, Vadm calls it ASTHMATIC. Hikain daw kasi walang naacomplish. Hehehe. Pero hindi nya na matatawag yun ngaun kasi kita naman, marami naman sa atin ang willing at energetic to push through with our goal of Unity – Guidance – Progress.

Still, alanganin pa rin ako sa ASMAAPI. Kaya if anybody noticed, I call it ASMAAP, Inc. para sa akin, it sounds more corporate. Parehas lang naman na four (4) syllables.

Calling it ASM might be a better idea, reducing it to three syllables. Para sa iba, iniisip nila na hindi mahalaga ang bawat syllables, pero sa marketing at memetics (study of memes), it matters a lot. Tulad ng Mc Donalds to Mc Do, or Federal Express to FedEx, Foreign Exchange to Forex. Sometimes a single syllable might aid or raid our edge.

So reducing its syllables is a good idea. Ang problem ko lang sa ASM ay baka mabigkas itong ASIM (sour). Hahaha. And with that conception, it might do more harm than good.

I’ve been worming around the semantics of it. AS-MAAP (Three syllables, and making “MAAP” more distinct, and dropping the “I”). A-S MAAP (pronounced as “ey-es MAAP”, four syllables, the school is still distinct, and the I was dropped).

I’ve been tinkering with the idea for a long time now. I’m glad ma’am that you posted yours. I hope other alumni might give their own opinions as well.

Before anything else, let us commend dux Jeffrey Rodriguez for coming up with the name, Alumni Society... para kakaiba nga.

actually, during the very first alumni meeting and election... only 2 Names had been suggested. Isa na dun ang name ng society now. and ung isa ay MAAP Inc.

Medyo, siguro sa umpisa kung ano-anong pumapasok sa isip natin. tulad lang ng mga stores like, inkman... pero ganun talaga sa umpisa. Nafind out ko nga later on, sa magazine lang, na may Maersk Inc... and others.

Ay, in fairness naman kay Digoi, everything was started from scratch. And the name of the society is an accomplishment itself... the first meeting and election is already a manifestation of willingnes.

Mahirap lang talaga sa umpisa... kasi una, halos lahat ng 2003 ay active in sailing. (to answer the call of our vision and as well as serve the country gloriously, di ba)...
Hindi madaling pagsabayin na ipakita naman sa buong mundo what maap graduates are kung di naman sasakay ng barko, isn't it...

But the mere fact, na kahit na ang hirap halug-hugin ang bawat isa sa lawak ng dagat kasi, eh nakapagsimula na tayo...
un ang mahalaga...

Ung problem about na baka mabigkas ng iba kamo like sour... well, kasi ang objective natin ay maging magandang pakinggan...

when it comes to pagbabasa or written form Alumni Society Of Maap un eh...

but when being referred or mentioned or uttered on the lips (and not just being read) may kakaibang arrive ang ASM.


Example natin, ASTC... kung babasahin nga, parang Astik di ba.
pero hindi naman un ang purpose nun eh...
ASTC is an acronoym...
ang binabasa ay ung full meaning ng ASTC itself...


Sa ASM hindi naman nawala ang MAAP, is there...

siguro may ibang comparison... like Mall of Asia... ung acronym ay binasa na rin... that is why we read it as MOA, and not as separate letters...
kasi mas madali nga naman ipronounce un...

Ang MAAP itself, it was read kasi mas magandang pakinggan... rather than pronouncing the letters one by one, like this way... M - A - A - P.

These are special cases ng acronym na kung mas madaling basahin instead of reading the initials lang, at kung mas tatak sa isip ng lahat, un ang pipiliin.
However these special cases in reading the acronym depends upon the languange or culture... tulad nating mga pinoy na ABAKADA, kaya madali nating nababasa ang acronym...
at nangyayari lang itong special cases na ito kung sa bansang pinagmulan ay may ganung salita sa bokabularyo nila.

Just imagine kung mga kano tayo... ASM will not be thought as sour... kasi wala naman sa english language na asin eh...


so going back sa acronym,,, yung hindi naman special cases...

example natin... PMA,
it was not read as pima, una... siguro dahil un naman talaga initials. PHiL Military Academy
2nd, siguro dahil mas magandang pakinggan at mas madaling sabihin
3rd. kasi walang tagalog na pima,
4th, siguro dahil pilipino tayo at may ABAKADA, ang consonant ay madalas may katabing vowel at un ang binabasa natin..(except for some cases like, ngayon, etc)



it is only a reply when it comes to fearing that others may think it as asim...


ang objective ng ASM ay maging madaling ibigkas ang acronym ng society...
kapag we all say it as A-S-M un ang tatanim sa utak ng mga tao...

ah. i got it. pwede nga naman buuin in written, then acronym pag verbal. or acronym din pag written, diskartehan na lang sa typo/caligraphy (style of presentation). madali na yung magagawa basta magaling ang corporate designer.

The Society may be used to also pertains to the alumni.

yup ma'am, i agree with that. at parang natatandaan ko na Society lagi ang ginagamit ni Admin pertaining to the group of Alumni.

Basta mpapaganda ang recall ng Society natin the better. My hands go to Maam Jas and Sir Miko for this active topic.

Society was suggested not only to make ourselves unique. It was suggested and wherefore chosen because of the

meaning to the community. it doesn't only cover the Organizatiopn we are in but also the communities involved.

Such as the Alma Mater, Maritime Industry and the those linke to the organization.

If i am not mistaken, Odal '06 who was then the Chancellor of 2006 had came up with the Mission Statement gathered

from the Brain Storming of the Attendees during the 1st Board meeting. Jas, kung may copy ka ng Mission Statement

natin, paki-bigay na lang kay Legaspi. or kugn si Fame eh meron nun??? head crash kasi HD ko eh.... pati yung pics

and files ko nung meetings eh gone!!! except kung nakasave pa sa e-mail ko.

but anyways, that was just a brief description why we are using the Society instead of Alumni Association...

regarding sa acronym naman... before, we used to call it ASMAAP, Inc talaga... or the Alumni or Society in informal

discussions. isa lang naman ang meaning nun eh. and i don't buy the suggestion na tangalin ang AAP kasi it's was

also an acronym. acronym of our Alma Mater. sorry jas ha. i'm not being heretic here... he he he!!!

Regarding sa Logo, i had sent it to Tautuan before. hindi naman nabago yung logo. it was mere logic na ang MAAP eh

ginamit ang Logo ng Amosup and why shouldn't us? of course there would be bright ideas coming out to make our

Society more distinct. but it was not the words how we describe it, nor the pics we post and the logo we display.

that's how we live by the goals of the Society and how we make the Society proud of its members.

but the rest goes to the board now. inputs lang naman 'to from an alumnus...

Wow! These are really interesting and noteworthy info. kaya pala Society.
Its unique, and has far reaching Goals.

To Sir Rodriguez, we, the board will always consider with great weight the thoughts of the Pioneers of our Society who are also the starting point of the Long Blue Line.
